Watching The Voice recently, I had an ahha moment in my head. Keith said in his urban drawl, how confidence makes the world of difference when connecting with the audience.

I agree, you cannot fake or make connection, people just know when the experience is felt.

You know those moments when you can hear a pin drop and it’s as if the whole room took a simultaneous breath. Or when some-one locks eyes with you and all of a sudden you disappear into their vortex.

I have a secret that has been holding me back. It’s taken me years to get the confidence to record my meditations and publish them broadly. Whilst I feel comfortable delivering meditations in a live setting, something was stopping me from recording my rising collection of meditation scripts. I had all the excuses possible and several setbacks from my failed attempts. Apparently I have a pheromone that attracts air-conditioning maintenance men and tradies using loud tools with loud voices

Keith helped me realise the path to connection arises from confidence. Confidence is a melting pot of self-belief, passion and knowledge. Some-how I had not joined the dots between the bravo feeling of confidence and the deep feeling of connection. There was something else missing from putting myself out there for all to see and hear. Then the realisation dawned. Whilst I could connect with my live audience I had lost connection with my peers. The feeling of being judged made me feel vulnerable and exposed. Damn, just when I think I know myself there is a new lesson to be lived.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
― Brené Brown

Just as Brene says, we all want to feel valued so we can have deeper more engaged relationships. This being a human is a work in progress and those of us willing to pause and listen inwards will continue to grow and prosper.
